Episode 1 is alive!

You can now listen to our first show! We discuss who the hell we are, why the hell we have a podcast and our excessive use of the word ‘hell.’ OK, that last part isn’t true, but we do cover a HIGH-larious GQ article about coffee shops in Amsterdam, crummy travel jobs and even crummier airline movies.

Let us know what you thought of the show in the comments. Also, give us suggestions, feedback and delicious recipes.

Congrats on a great first ep, hilarious! I wonder too about Two and a Half Men, but thank American for introducing me to How I Met your Mother, which took me years to realize existed *off* the airplane. August Rush is probably the worst movie I’ve seen, on a plane or otherwise. Also? I am one of those synchronized couples, don’t hate.

Good first show! High quality audio was a big plus. So many podcasts fail at that! May I suggest video? It adds a lot to the conversation. A download link instead of having to play in the page or go to iTunes would also be a plus.

Thanks, Marco! We’re thrilled that you enjoyed the audio quality. That is a major priority for us. The show will be on iTunes later this week so that you will have the option to download episodes. Video may come in the future once we get some momentum going. Appreciate the feedback! -mb

Dude. Two-and-a-Half Men is the scourge of the airwaves.

Also, “Oh… you!” is the funniest shit I’ve heard in a while.

(Well done, men!)

Nice work!

I have a long, proud history of vaguely-tourism-related jobs. Spent three years serving BeaverTails (TM) to the adoring bus tour hordes in downtown Ottawa. Another two summers as a rickshaw runner giving grossly inaccurate historical tours of, again, downtown Ottawa. I actually loved both gigs.

I think the best/worst tour guide I’ve ever had was last summer in Dawson City, Yukon, at the local First Nations cultural center. I signed up for a free “river walk” and my guide was a teenage girl with total valley-girl lingo. Sample dialogue: “And then the elders were all like, whatever…” I kind of loved her.

Are rickshaws native to Ottawa? -mb

Eva Reply:

Ha. Well, not native per se, but O-town is one of the last places in North America where they still use runners, rather than pedi-cabs or cycle rickshaws or whatever you want to call them. My company had runners in Ottawa, Toronto and Daytona. I’ve seen them in Halifax as well – hilly!

Enjoyed it guys… entertaining and a nice change from what you hear on most “travel show” podcasts. I’d like to hear more from Lionel next time though. Oh, and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” … worst. plane. movie. ever. Watched it Sunday on flight from San Juan… painful.

mikeandalex Reply:

Thanks, Kara! Did you choose to watch that to prepare for parenthood? Explain yourself!

Very entertaining guys!

So, shout out to Sart at Geckos who we did a tour of Bangkok and the hill tribes in Thailand with.

And what do you mean you didn’t like Sherlock Holmes? I loved that movie beyond all reason.

Mike, you forgot the worst movie ever shown on an airplane, Roll Bounce.

Great first podcast guys.

I actually hate watching movies on planes, as I have a very short attention span and tend to fall asleep when flying.

But the crummiest movie that I watched on a plane was Whip It! starring Drew Barrymore. It made me physically angry. I then proceeded to watch the map for the rest of the flight.

Thanks, Andrew! Appreciate the rousing endorsement!

I once endured Roll Bounce on a flight. What is it about movies involving roller skates that make them so bad for flights? -mb

Diary of a Shopaholic. Man, I was ready to try the emergency exit. Whew. I was in coach, we didn’t have options. It. Was. Awful. Though on one horrible string of long haul flights we sat through Ants three times. THREE TIMES.
